I don't like that idea, Esp, with all toys, everyone's piece would just suck but one standing out of all. no competition there

I was thinking we could have Study Battles. Like instead of usual stuff we could have a challenge where everyone involved is asked to do something outside of their routine. The Due dates should be farther apart to give us time to really study that stuff.

            For instance:

            Word: Your Name
Style: A new style that's inspired by the Irish Book of Kells, or other examples of Illuminated Manuscript, example:
            http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...k-of-kells.jpg
            Due: In a Month
            Colors: B&W + one tone

            Or

            Word: Your Name
Style: Study Arabic Calligraphy and rock a piece in a new style that you believe really captures the flow and aesthetic of that calligraphy.
            ....

We should postt he pic we studied and juxtapose with the finished products and the winner is the one who really captures the style yet produces something really clean and original.

I think these kinds of battles will benefit us in a number of ways.
1)Nothing gets you out of writer's block like a study. It forces you out of a routine completely and can lead to new and innovative styles alltogether by expanding your style vocabulary.
2)It knocks more experienced writer's off their foundations in a way that puts them on a more equal footing with less experienced writers. Likewise it encourages toys to get in the mix instead of relying on techniques that are probably holding them back.
            3) I think that once the battle is done everyone involved will be way better. I imagine after a year of those battles everyone's improvement will be accelerated beyond what was previously imaginable.

Thats kinda why I though we'd need extended time to study.

                                Question:
should we use arabic calligraphy, or
                                illuminated manuscript or
                                initial lettering style?
