SMK. when i started Dj'ing it was my name. in time it was too long to write the whole thing out so it was shortened to SMK.

SMK.not going to give my age but, i started writing in 1983




PURE GRAFFITI. Which writers and artists most inspired you?

SMK. JONONE, stak,emit,CLARK and still to this day CLARK


PURE GRAFFITI. What do you like the most and least about "graffiti" culture?

SMK. politics.


PURE GRAFFITI.What crew(s) are you in?

SMK.FLY ID, free agents, ELW,MCA,BA,IHU,DST,AFU,ICON,CBS




PURE GRAFFITI. What is Graffiti all about to you?

SMK. gettin up! by any means necessary


PURE GRAFFITI.What do you think about writers who are out for fame?

SMK. do your thing kid, stay out of my way


PURE GRAFFITI.Do you think Graffiti these days all looks the same?

SMK. east and west have diffrent styles, but for the most part..it is.




PURE GRAFFITI.Do you think Graffiti has reached its limits or do you think amazing new styles will keep arising?

SMK. naw...there is styles mother fuckers aint seen yet!!


PURE GRAFFITI.What are your thoughts on OLD SKOOL Graffiti and present day?

SMK. its a progression thang.. if it didnt todays pieces would still look like old school..tags with outlines on them...


PURE GRAFFITI. How do you feel about trainwriting?

SMK. subway. freights, monorails...its all good!!




PURE GRAFFITI. Who do you believe your audience is, writers or regular folks?

SMK. mostly writers. few reg. folks though do get put on to the steez


PURE GRAFFITI. Is graffiti political? should it be more so?

SMK. graffiti art is not anything other than what it is. if there is a political statement behind it. so be it. no it should not be more political either.




PURE GRAFFITI.What are your feelings about more experienced writers reffering to younger learning writers as "TOYS"?

SMK. we all are toys at one point in our lives. accept it. ask them to teach you, thats the way its always been. i was tought. and i am still learning.


PURE GRAFFITI. If you could teach or tell the kids something, what would it be?

SMK.JUST SAY HECK NO TO TECHNO. graffiti is a part of hip-hop. it is a part of the culture. anything else and YA PLAYIN YASELF.




PURE GRAFFITI.Is their anything else you would like to add that was not asked in the interview?

SMK. RESPECT DUE when RESPECT IS GIVEN. PAY HOMAGE!
